70mm 3 Core Armoured Cable
70mm 3 Core Armoured Cable is a large electrical cable with a galvanised steel wire armour (SWA) and PVC sheath. Due to it’s large size and current rating of 238 amps (clipped direct), this cable is suitable for a variety of uses, including;
- Factory and Industrial Installs
- Powering buildings long distances from mains supply
- Large workshops, warehouses etc.
If you need to asses what size cable it is you require, check out our Armoured Cable Calculator. PLEASE NOTE; this is an approximation, if you don’t know what cable size it is you require, please contact a qualified electrician so they can consult the regulations and confirm.

Description | 70mm 3 Core Armoured Cable
70mm 3 Core Armoured Cable is a size and type of steel wire armoured cable. Primarily found in large powered networks and underneath roadways supplying mains electricity to large buildings. It can also be found within the transport industry, specifically railways powering the trains and buildings located beside the tracks. Due to the size of this cable, it is perfectly suitable for large amounts of power running through it on a daily basis, 24 hours a day. Please bear in mind that this cable only has two cores; a live and a neutral. There is no seperate earth core, meaning that the steel wire armour is relied upon to be a CPC (Circuit Protective Conductor) or natural earth for the cable. Although this is usually recommended on small sizes of armoured cable, it isn’t recommended when putting a lot of power through the cable, which would ordinarily be the case with this size of cable. The best solution to this issue would be to buy a length of earth cable that matches the length of the Armoured Cable. This would negate the steel wire from being used as an earth, meaning it is a safer alternative. 70mm 3 Core Armoured Cable is constructed from the following materials; – Plain Annealed Stranded Copper for the cores – Cross-Linked Polyethylene for the Insulation – PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) for the bedding and sheathing – Steel Wire for the armour protecting the insulating layers beneath. |
