6mm 3 Core Armoured Cable

6mm 3 Core Armoured Cable is a type of electrical cable used to supply mains voltage electricity for a variety of uses. As this cable is armoured, it is suitable for underground installation as well as being attached to structures or buildings using Cable Cleats. Both indoor and outdoor glands for this armoured SWA cable. This cable is commonly found in a range of installations including;

  • Hot Tub / Jacuzzi Installs
  • Factory Lighting
  • Industrial Power Networks

If you need to asses what size cable it is you require, check out our Armoured Cable Calculator. PLEASE NOTE; this is an approximation, if you don’t know what cable size it is you require, please contact a qualified electrician so they can consult the regulations and confirm.

Tip on Best Way to Size Your Armoured Cable 6mm 3 core

To give you an example on how to size your cable, we take our 6mm SWA cable rating and forget about this for a moment. This is a result from the free cable calculator we provide. It shows that over a 27 meter run the cable will have 6.83v drop. This is lower than the permissible  3%  and would therefore be the correct cable for a 32 amp armoured cable supply over this length. You can try using the cable calculator here if you need any help, feel free to call.

Step 1: How long is the cable run in metres ?

Step 2: How many AMPs do you need ?

Step 3: Select if 3 or 5 % volt drop Required ( 5% for lighting 3% for everything else)

Step 4: Press calculate, you will then be given results like the below table.

PHASE SINGLE PHASE
POWER 7.36KW / 32A
LENGTH 27M
CORE SIZE 6MM²
VOLTAGE DROP 6.83 VOLTS

Description 6mm 3 Core Armoured Cable

Suitable for under and over-ground usage alike, 6mm 3 Core Armoured Cable is a dust and waterproof variant of electrical cable that is commonly found within powered networks and supplying mains electricity to a large variety of devices, both domestic and industrial.This particular type of cable is constructed using Plain Annealed Stranded Copper for the conductors, XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) for the insulation, PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) for the bedding and sheathing and Steel Wire for the armouring. Not only does the Steel Wire Armour provide a method of mechanical protection, meaning it is suitable for installation into highly-corrosive environments, the armour also provides a form of CPC (Circuit Protective Conductor) meaning it can be used as an earth for the cable. This means that an earth core/cable is not required although it is still recommended as an extra safety measure.
